Operating in the port of Thunder Bay (originally under the name Gravel & Lake Services) since 1933, Lakehead Tugboats has been owned and operated by the Lecuyer family since 1985. Since the opening of the St. Lawrence seaway in 1959, allowing sea going vessels to enter the great lakes, we have been providing ship assist services to all types of commercial vessels. Lakehead Tugboats provides ice breaking services and the maintaining of navigational water ways at the port of Thunder Bay and surrounding area along with Canadian coast guard and the United States coast guard. Ice breaking in docking slips, basins, channels or de-icing a berth to allow a vessel to conduct discharge or loading operation.  The ice management service we provide allows our customers to save fuel consumption and time as well limiting the possibility of ice damage to owners vessels. Our crews experience, skill and knowledge of the area allow us to adapt to the extreme winter conditions that are unique to the great lakes and port of the Thunder Bay.
